This is the first-ever complete recording of La Vida Breve and features the superb performance of Victoria de los Angeles at the beginning of her illustrious career. It was recorded in Barcelona with a cast of Spanish singers, whose presence helps give this recording a dramatic intensity and textural authenticity.
The conductor, Ernesto Halffter, was a pupil of the composer who spent several years after Falla's death completing the score of Falla's scenic cantata, Atlantida and SOMM was able to obtain special permission from Halffter's son, Manuel, to print his father's notes and synopsis which originally appeared on the EMI issue released in 1954.
