The refrain speaks of a spirit choked and weighed down. The first verse reflects on the easy freedom of our childhood dreams, while the second verse, to the same melody but in a more sombre setting, laments the reality of a choking relationship. At the end the two themes merge into one plaintive whole, as the piano recalls the heart-cry of the verse above a final despairing refrain. The work was originally set for voice, harp, guitar and flute, and these parts are still available from composer - email to ardrosshouse@btinternet.com
